Confidential Assignment (2017): Movie Review
Plot: When a crime organization from North Korea crosses borders and enters South Korean soil, a South Korean detective must cooperate with a North Korean detective to investigate their whereabouts.
Review: Detective Cheol-ryeong of North Korea lost both his wife and his unit when his supervisor Cpt. Cha betrayed him in order to obtain the engraving plates used to produce fake US currency.
Moment after, Cha and a few of his friends flee to South Korea with the intention of selling the plates.
After being brutally questioned in the North about his role in the crime, Cheol-ryeong is eventually sent to the South as part of a delegation after persuading his superiors that he will get Cha no matter what.
Although the information they have indicates that Cha is only sought for murder, the South Korean Intelligence Agency thinks the North delegation's visit was planned with a larger goal in mind.
However, they designate investigator Kang, who had a recent string of mistakes, ostensibly to accompany Cheol-ryeong, but in reality, to prevent him from taking any of the planned actions.
They make an unusual couple because the N. Korean quickly demonstrates his expertise in martial arts and firearms while his counterpart is out of his element.
After briefly evading capture before being apprehended, Cheol-ryeong eventually moves in with Cha, setting off a chain of events that alters the lives of everyone involved—including Cha's sister-in-law, who falls in love with the newcomer.
NOTE: Confidential Assignment is a spectacular, amusing, and extremely stylish action comedy that is sure to amuse its audience, especially those who adore Hollywood blockbusters, despite its lack of really originality.
