Emancipation (2022): Movie Review

Emancipation (2022): Movie Review

Plot: Inspired by the gripping true story of a man who would do anything for his family and for freedom. When Peter, an enslaved man, risks his life to escape and return to his family, he embarks on a perilous journey of love and endurance.

Review: Will Smith makes his public appearance again thanks to the movie.

After his outburst at the Oscars earlier this year, Smith has said that he understands if people aren't ready to see him back in the spotlight, an admission that has prompted renewed media discussion over why he was punished.

The movie takes place in 1863, soon after Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

The true narrative begins with a sequence of drone tracking images that travel through a forested swamp and cross a cotton farm where enslaved African Americans toil in the soil.

In a shanty, a devoted Peter tenderly strokes the tiny foot of his wife Dodienne with water with their kids encircling them.

They are devout individuals who have faith that God would give them courage and deliverance as they battle against white people who view them as nothing more than property.

Sadly, despite their beliefs, they cannot escape this system's realities.

In an effort to stay with his loved ones, Peter is forced to remove the door frame from the walls after being dragged away from them by two white males.

The Confederate Army bought him to work as labor for the construction of a railroad.

Peter is not hesitant to stand out for his companions who are slaves, even if it means facing death.

Reputable slave catcher Fassel is soon impressed by Peter's tenacious determination.

In an attempt to escape slavery, Peter and a few other slaves trek for five days through dangerous swamps in the direction of Lincoln's army.

His objective is not only to regain freedom, but he also wants to reconcile with his family, whom he was forced to leave in the heart of Confederate territory.

NOTE: It will be a shame if the film receives negative feedback as a result of the altercation Will Smith got into at the Oscars earlier this year.
