THE city of Boston in Massachusetts, United States, has declared March 2nd as “Burna Boy’s Day” in honour of the Nigerian singer. This was contained in a document of the Boston City Council signed by Councillor Ruthzee Louijeune. According to the document, Burna Boy was honoured in recognition of his “performances and advocacy works.” The document read inter alia: “Boston’s commitment to recognizing and celebrating culture and diversity is evident in the range of cultural events, festivals, and community initiatives that showcase the city’s multicultural landscape and: “Whereas, Burna Boy’s legacy serves as a reminder of possibility, reminding us to continue amplifying voices that have long been silenced or overlooked, now, therefore be it resolved: That March 2, 2024 is designated Burna Boy Day in the City of Boston.” Burna Boy has held so many soldout shows in Boston since breaking into the international scene in 2018.

THE police in South Africa have arrested six suspects in connection with the murder of superstar rapper, Kiernan Forbes, mostly known as AKA, and his close friend, celebrity chef and entrepreneur, Tebello “Tibz” Motshoane. The duo were murdered on February 10, 2023, while walking with a friend outside a popular Durban restaurant hours before he was to perform at a nearby club. AKA started his musical profession as part of the rap group ‘Entity’ before he ventured into a lone career. Until his demise, he won several awards in South Africa and was lauded globally. He earned Black Entertainment Television and MTV Europe nominations and he was honoured posthumously in the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards. Veteran Nigerian singer Wasiu Alabi, popularly known as Pasuma, has revealed when he will get married. The 55-year-old father of 10 said he will finally settle down after his late mother’s one year remembrance. According to report, Pasuma’s mother, Alhaja Adijat Kuburat, passed away in April last year. The fuji star recently sat down with Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, for an exclusive interview. Popular Nigerian Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke professionally known as Davido publicly vows to contribute a large amount of money to orphanages across Nigeria. Sharing on the microblogging platform, X, the Afrobeats singer announced on February 20,2024, his pledge to finance children living in orphanage homes across the country. He also shared the pledge on his Instagram page. He stated it is an agreement between him and his foundation to fund the residential homes of orphans with the sum of three hundred million naira. Davido noted that the pledge is a yearly gift as his contribution to the nation. Veteran Nollywood actress, Ethel Aderemi, popularly known as Ethel Ekpe, has sadly passed away following a prolonged battle with cancer. The actress, who later transitioned into a preacher and motivational speaker, reportedly succumbed to cancer on Wednesday in Lagos. Dr. Shaibu Husseini, the Director-General of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), shared the news of her demise in a Facebook post on Wednesday night. “I have been reliably informed that Ethel Ekpe, the screen beauty that delighted fans with her inimitable interpretation of the role of Segi in the defunct sitcom on Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, by Ken Saro Wiwa titled ‘Basi and Company’ has passed on. “The actress and later day Pastor will be sorely missed. THE Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has announced plans to ensure skit makers, influencers, and digital content creators in Nigeria pay taxes. DailyTrust reports that the Special Adviser on Media to the chairman of the FIRS, Dare Adekambi, made this known to newsmen, revealing that social media content creators and influencers constituted a major block of tax evaders. According to Adekambi, FIRS would first set up a meeting and discuss with the entertainers why they should voluntarily pay taxes, but if the appeal fails, they will move to enforcement. “They are not paying. Skit makers, influencers and other content creators who are making money using digital platforms need to be paying tax. There is a law in Nigeria that requires everybody who earns income to pay tax. They earn in dollars. Tax is a civic obligation; civil servants are paying, so they also have to pay.
