BET Awards: Burna Boy Makes History As 1st African Artist to Win Again



Nigerian Superstar musician Damini Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy has won the award for Best International Act at the Black Entertainment Awards (BET) 2023, held on Sunday night in Los Angeles, United States of America.





Burna beat compatriot Ayra Starr, Aya Nakamura, Central Cee, Ella Mai, K.O, L7nnon, Stormzy, Tiakola and Uncle Waffles to emerge winner in the category.





The Nigerian singer, who has had amazing last couple years, was not present at the show but the Ghanaian-Liberian actor, Michael Blackson received the award on his behalf.





With his victory, Burna Boy extended his record as the most awarded person in the BET Awards’ “Best International Act” category (4).





Burna Boy won the award for three consecutive years (2019, 2020 and 2021).





Since the creation of the BET Awards’ “Best International Act” in 2018, the category has been exclusively won by Nigerians, with Davido being the maiden winner.





Tems won the “Best International Act” last year.
